  • In January 2025, the Managing Director of McDonald's Singapore, Benjamin Boh, stated that with new, environmentally friendly wooden utensils, clients can still enjoy their favourite breakfast platters and desserts, even though bidding goodbye to plastic silverware feels like the end of an era. McDonald's Singapore added that the switch to wooden cutlery is the most recent phase in the company's zero-waste journey and that it is not motivated by cost-cutting efforts. Every year, McDonald’s will save an average of 125,000 kg of plastic silverware by using hardwood cutlery instead. McDonald's Singapore said in a statement that the change, which started with a gradual rollout in October 2024, is anticipated to remove some 26 million plastic cutlery pieces, supporting the business's larger sustainability initiatives.
