The biopolymer gives paper used for food packaging a number of useful benefits and is approved for home composting (EN 13432 and AS 5810). It has outstanding barrier qualities against liquids, fats, grease, and mineral oil in addition to temperature stability at boiling water (up to 100°C) and is FDA-approved for food contact.
- On 7 November 2024, UPM Speciality Papers and Eastman collaborated to create a new biopolymer -coated paper packaging solution crafted for food products needing for food products demanding oxygen barriers and grease. This solution integrates Eastmans bio-based Solus additives with BioPBSTM polymer to create a thin coating on UPMs recyclable and compostable base papers.
