EcoCortec, the leading European arm of Cortec Corporation, introduced an organized vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI) packaging material created at its Croatian facility. This organized VCI demonstrates biodegradability, compatibility, and compostability while maintaining circular-economy goals. The company is focusing on introducing solutions that combine corrosion shielding with end-of-life alternatives to meet the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation requirements.
This new VCI is a solution and an essential addition to sustainable packaging. Various companies have widely adopted the trend toward waste regulation, while EcoCortec is promoting it through sustainable integration.
The company is popular for its integrated solutions that combine corrosion shield with end-of-life options. The alternatives are the solutions that most environmentally concern companies and customers are seeking. This new VCI will be a thoughtful initiative in barrier-free, eco-friendly packaging.
The portfolio revolves around anti-static corrosion protection products, qualified compostable films, stretch-wrap substitutes, and recyclable barrier papers, each made with compostable resins. The leading materials involve EcoWorks bags and films made from BPI-certified compostable resins. This usage is best for the breakdown classification in commercial composting systems and EcoFilm as well. It’s a proven commercially compostable polyethylene replacement.
The VCI is a new addition to this robust portfolio and will enhance it while promoting eco-friendly packaging. The aligned features include Eco-Corr Film ESD (Electrostatic Discharge), an operative static-based multi-metal component, and Eco Wrap, a compatible, compostable stretch film for existing wrapping equipment. Alongside the EcoShrink is a heat-shrink film with holds crucial compostability certifications.
EcoCortec has also commercialized the EcoBio Barrier Paper, which is immensely repulpable, biodegradable, and recyclable. The product is 100% recycled fiber-made and features biobased coatings for grease resistance and short-term moisture protection, helping prevent the use of fluorochemicals and plastics. These packaging alternatives are more focused on serving a full corrosion shield while promoting recovery routes and sustainable disposal.
The CEO of Cortec, Boris Miksic, said,
“This step towards a genuine sustainable packaging is beyond achieving economic gain and environmental imperative. Products such as EcoBio Barrier Paper are pivotal because they enable industries to manage product safety and integrity without compromising environmental responsibility. Our certified sustainable VCI/VpCI packaging line serves an unmatchable corrosion protection with the guarantee, a promise of plastic-free end-of-life either via biodegradation, recycling, or compostability.”
