PepsiCo has reframed its packaging process by adding a sustainable concept to the PepsiCo Positive (pep+) strategy. The company is focusing on external challenges and verifying the government regulations to redefine the planning of the strategy. The other positive aspects, such as reducing sodium, sugar, and saturated fat, continue to contribute to the goals. The announcement is enlightening about the positive choices of the company to expand in both the beverage and the eco-friendly packaging markets.
After the launch of pep+ in 2021, PepsiCo achieved progress in climate change and sustainable packaging. The strategy aligns with several new advancements and enhancements over the years. Now, the refined sustainability goals are emerging and strengthening the business. The company is aiming towards the target with the same ambition and positive attitude of expanding new ideas internally. The improvement in infrastructure and the elimination of barriers are what the company is working on. The revised strategy is designed for higher returns on its investment. Though the progress will take time, considering other limited factors that are effective but time-consuming. The electric modernization, cost-competitive vehicle availability, fluctuating government policies, and reuse and recycling infrastructure are a slow process of change.
PepsiCo is working on reducing virgin plastic reduction to packaging and adding improvements and enhancements to the design. This will make the product more appealing and approachable to the consumers. The company is also planning an extension of the investment to the packaging lifecycle. The focus on the reuse target will leverage the demand for the product. The innovation, cross-sector collaboration, and investment will help the company to achieve its refined sustainable goals.
PepsiCo’s executive vice president and chief sustainability officer, Jim Andrew, elaborated the goals more specifically, saying, It's important for the company to continue with its transparency regarding the progress and the challenges faced. He further described the sustainable journey, saying, the journey will not always be linear, but will approach both business mind and climate concerns. PepsiCo ensures the learning of new operations and the circulation internally to structure a sustainable food system. The company is finding ways to accelerate growth and adaptation to its goals.
