Amkor Technology, Inc., a leading outsourced semiconductor assembly and test provider, has announced its plans to relocate its previously planned site of an advanced semiconductor packaging and test facility in Arizona to the Peoria Innovation Core in North Peoria.

The project expects an investment of about $2 billion and will help generate around 2000 jobs. Peoria Mayor Jason Beck said that the citys collaboration with Amkor marks a significant development for the regions role in the US semiconductor supply chain.

The company, in a press release, confirmed that the new planned facility is set to be built on a 104-acre parcel after the approval from the Peoria City Council of a land swap and agreement.

The shift in Amkors plans will allow them to shift from their previous 56-acre site in the Five North at Vistancia community to the new location. The company also confirmed that the construction will begin in the coming days, whereas the production process will start in early 2028.

Arizona currently positions itself as a key player in the U.S. semiconductor production, where this will be a major step in the companys expansion efforts. This is mainly due to the rising government support and funding from CHIPS and Science ACT, where many global companies are also setting up their factory expansion in the state.

The revised plan of Amkor also underlines the efforts of companies and local government bodies to balance the industrial expansion with precise land-use planning. The relocation here can be stated as a coordinated step of city officials and the company, which would further secure a site with more flexibility and development parameters.
