India Promotes Recycled Plastics in Food Packaging

On Environment Day 2025, India officially recognized the use of recycled plastics for its use in food packaging, promoting a sustainable economy. These initiatives are not limited to changing the laws; the hospitality and travel businesses are also adopting eco-friendly changes in their daily operations.

Karan Mehta, the venture principal of Green Frontier Capital, said, “On this World Environment Day, we stand at an important moment in the global effort to combat plastic pollution. The Government of India has made an inspiring decision to permit the use of recycled plastic in food-grade applications, marking a significant step forward. This policy highlights that circular economy solutions are not only possible but are now officially acknowledged.” He also added that this initiative is a development, but it is not limited only to changing policies, as they cannot undo the years of overconsumption of plastic.

Mehta concluded by saying, “This initiative goes beyond waste management; it is about ensuring a healthier future for our children and our planet. This is a reminder that there is no Planet B. Let this year be one where we transform our promises into actions and embrace responsibility. Together, we can make a significant impact. Let’s act now, with determination and unity.”

CEO of HungerBox, Sandipan Mitra, also expressed his views – “At HungerBox, we power millions of meals every month across India’s leading workplaces. With that kind of scale, we know we can’t just serve food — we have to serve a purpose too. Fighting plastic pollution isn’t about big gestures or one-time campaigns; it’s about the small, consistent choices we make every single day.” He also said that the company is building a smarter and cleaner food ecosystem, which focuses on collaborating with partners that also share the same environmental values.

The rapid digital advancements are helping them to streamline their operations across the country, where the company is also focusing on eliminating single-use plastic wherever possible.
