Liwayway Vietnam and Biotech announced the adoption of LIMEX Pellet, a limestone-based packaging material from TBM, a leading Japanese firm, for their liquid detergent packaging and flagship snack. The material contains 50% or more inorganic material, such as calcium carbonate, which helps in reducing greenhouse gas and plastic usage as compared to petroleum-based plastics.

LIMEX is compatible with plastic moulding methods, which further allows the use of existing moulding machines. The company mentioned that Vietnamese brands are ‘racing to comply’ with the new environmental regulation from the government that aims to promote the use of greener products. A survey by PwC shows that more than 90% of citizens in Vietnam have the willingness to pay more for greener products that are manufactured with sustainable materials.

The company is trying to use limestone as the main raw material for the packaging, which currently makes it competitive in the price range segment. The material is currently being used in three different packaging sizes, which are Biotech’s flagship detergent, Bio Clean. Additionally, both TBM and Biotech are aiming to expand the use of LIMEX in multiple products.

Earlier this year, TBM announced that Liwayway Vietnam has adopted LIMEX Pellet for its snack packaging, aiming to meet the quality requirements of the brand's packaging and also reduce the costs. The material has a matte texture, which enhances its appeal, making it luxurious in the packaging industry. The limestone material is now also being used for three different product lines of Limayway.

In a related news of LIMEX Pellet, the material is now being used by LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) in its skincare packaging, a bold step towards their commitment to sustainability. The company is expected to reduce the use of petroleum-based plastics
