In February 2025, Motherson entered into a joint project with Sanko of Japan, which is a player in the resource handling segment, to offer sustainable packaging resolutions in Europe and India. The joint venture seeks to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for automotive as well as non-automotive sectors by merging Sanko's engineering proficiency and years of innovation with Motherson's strong footprint in India and Europe.
Motherson Chairman Vivek Chaand Sehgal expressed, "We believe that reimagining packaging as an engineered solution versus a simple commodity can bring immense logistics, cost, and value efficiencies to supply chains. We see this collaboration as another way to support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals." And Sanko President Toshihiko Goto expressed, "We believe we can contribute more to Motherson's and our valuable customers by combining Motherson's strong global presence and our long experience and rich expertise in the sustainable packaging solution business."
Founded in 1951, Sanko is one of Japan’s leading manufacturers of plastic material handling products, largely dedicated to the sustainable packaging solution. With its strong engineering capabilities, in-house technical support, Sanko operates 27 factories across Japan that serve customers in various fields. Motherson, on the other hand, is a global engineering, manufacturing, and assembly giant on the path to becoming a globally preferred sustainable solutions provider. This partnership aligns well with Motherson’s efforts toward decarbonization by focusing on the development of reusable and sustainable packaging solutions.
