Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) has announced a public call for proposals aimed at advancing mass production technologies for next-generation tandem perovskite solar cells. This initiative is part of its Green Innovation Fund program.
Spanning six years from fiscal 2025 to 2030, the program is designed to drive the commercialization of tandem solar devices. It will focus on minimizing performance losses during scale-up, while establishing high-efficiency, high-throughput manufacturing methods. The project will also involve real-world demonstration tests on rooftops and ground-mounted systems to evaluate power generation capabilities under practical conditions.
Eligible applicants include private companies, universities, and research institutions. Proposals must be submitted online between October 3 and November 17. Submissions via postal mail, fax, email, or paper format will not be accepted.
An online briefing session is scheduled for October 10. While attendance is optional, NEDO encourages participation. All applicants must register through Japan’s cross-ministerial R&D management platform, e-Rad.
This initiative is part of NEDO’s broader Green Innovation Fund, which supports the development and deployment of advanced technologies to lower electricity generation costs.
Earlier, in September, NEDO released 24 research themes for a 2025–2029 initiative focused on next-generation solar cell development, system integration, grid stability, and recycling. The effort complements Japan’s national solar strategy introduced earlier this year, aimed at promoting innovation in PV technologies, enhancing system durability, advancing recycling, and supporting the country’s 2050 carbon neutrality target.
