Rayonier Advanced Materials (RYAM) has announced the launch of an enhanced freezer application for its portable carton board, specifically designed to meet the packaging needs of the frozen food industry. The product was developed at the company’s Temiscaming facility in Canada. Part of RYAM’s Kallima portable grade line, it offers the mechanical toughness and performance desirable for cold-chain delivery. The board is designed to withstand temperatures as low as -18°C (0°F), while maintaining its integrity and preventing delamination under freezing conditions.

It achieves moisture resistance without the need for extra coatings or plastic bulge handling, which contributes to lower costs and shorter turnaround times. This folding carton board is suitable for a variety of frozen food applications, including ready meals and protein trays. It is formed utilizing fibre from sustainably sourced, certified forests and comprises a print surface perfect for graphics.

RYAM senior vice-president for paperboard and high harvest pulp, Ken Duffy, expressed: “Our improved freezer usage is a direct response to consumer requirements. “It allows converters with a freezer-ready solution that performs reliably while remaining easy to convert helping brands stay competitive without adding production intricacy.”

RYAM upholds engineering operations in the US, France, and Canada. The corporation reported $1.6 billion in income for 2024. Its set includes cellulose-based technologies, such as high-purity cellulose specialties useful in pharmaceuticals, filters, and food, along with goods supporting the paper and packaging segments.
