Sappi Introduces Heat-Sealable Papers to Strengthen Packaging Range

Sappi’s Seal paper range, including Seal Silk, Seal G Silk, Seal Pure Silk, Seal Natural, Seal Light, and Seal Lucent, offers a versatile selection designed to meet a wide variety of packaging applications and sealing requirements. The portfolio is engineered for smooth integration into existing packaging lines, helping customers maintain efficiency while upgrading the quality and performance of their packs.

Covering a basis weight range of 44–110 gsm and available in multiple finishes and special features, including OBA-free and translucent options, the range provides the flexibility to select the right grade for any pack format, production process, or visual requirement. Whether the focus is on functional performance, aesthetic appeal, or both, Sappi’s Seal papers give packaging teams the tools to create high-quality, reliable, and visually compelling packs.

Sappi says the Seal range fits both primary and secondary packing where no complex barrier structures are needed and low-to-medium barrier performance is adequate (grade-dependent). Typical uses comprise multi-packs for confectionery, such as wrapped products and Neapolitans; pillow bags, sachets, stick packs, doypacks, and stand-up pouches; and food and non-food products that require safe sealing without complex barrier structures.

The papers are planned as mono-material to be recyclable in the paper waste stream (where appropriate collection and sorting systems exist) and are said to be appropriate replacements for PE-coated papers and many plastic-based laminates. Sappi highlights that the portfolio was established to address challenges such as the PPWR, rising demand for recyclable packaging across worldwide markets, and the necessity for materials that run well on existing equipment and are charged competitively with plastic.

The company ensures that all Seal papers are planned for consistent sealing and smooth runnability, while their strong mechanical strength helps stable processing and safe transport. The papers also give precise print results, serving brands reach ‘a clear and defined’ visual arrival on the shelf.

At the end of last year, Sappi Europe introduced its Guard Pro OHS and Guard Pro OMH mono-material papers, expressed to be recyclable and offer high-barrier protection without compromising production efficacy. The papers are planned to deliver a paper-based substitute to plastic and multilayer foils for fast-paced production lines.

All Seal papers are planned for consistent sealing and smooth runnability, while their strong mechanical strength helps stable processing and safe transport. The papers also give accurate print consequences, supporting brands reach a clear and defined visual arrival on the shelf. Sappi helps customers throughout trial runs, comprising guidance on sealing temperatures, dwell times, and machine settings (depending on equipment and application).
