TNT Group is setting its sights beyond zamak. Known for its mastery of this premium, dense, and cool-to-the-touch material, valued for adding weight, durability, and prestige to packaging, the company has now filed a patent that could open up new packaging possibilities across luxury sectors, including perfumes, cosmetics, and spirits.
TNT Group’s new patent-pending injected aluminum technology, featuring a glossy anodized finish, combines the circularity benefits of aluminum with the adaptability of die-cast resources, while harnessing aesthetic potentials on par with zamak. It eliminates numerous constraints related to zamak or cold-compressed aluminum solutions conventionally presented by the company.
Specifically, it offers broad design flexibility, an extensive variety of metal finishes made possible by anodization, a condensed weight compared to zamak while retaining a superior hand feel, and full compatibility with typical household recycling streams.
TNT Group had previously capitalized on the growth of cold-compressed aluminum parts for clients like L’Artisan Parfumeur and Chanel. This technology offers a lighter substitute for Zamak, leveraging an extensively available metal from the food sector and promoting it in significant volumes that enable access to recognized worldwide collection and recycling streams. However, the shapes of these pieces continued to be restricted to simple, symmetrical constructions achieved through machining.
To help its consumers make informed strategic choices, TNT Group has initiated Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to evaluate and compare the ecological impact of various options for similar projects. These studies provide clients with transparent, assessable data to inform resource and technology decisions. An initial LCA has already been completed, comparing recycled Zamak with first-melt Zamak. Additional studies are expected to cover cold-compressed aluminum by the end of 2025 and anodized injected aluminum in 2026.
TNT Group announced that its first projects using the new solution are already in the design and industrial testing phases, with a full reveal planned at its booth (VA12) during Luxe Pack Monaco. With this innovation, the ISO 14067-certified company reinforces its expertise in working with a wide range of metals. Already producing items with over 30% recycled zamak, TNT Group continues to push forward in making its packaging portfolio more circular and sustainable.
Among its recent highlights are two refillable packaging designs with a unique structure, developed for the latest skincare line from Darphin Paris.
