Xaar’s versatile technology is fueling Koenig and Bauer Kammann’s latest digital creativity, a groundbreaking innovation portfolio, in a valuable partnership with Diageo, a beverage company. Xaar produced around 5,000 eye-catching prints on their Johnnie Walker whisky bottles. Kammann is a part of the Koenig and Bauer group, well-known for its quality decorative printing machines for metal, glass, and plastic containers, and has collaborated with xaar for multi-year, largely depending on its inkjet technology to promote innovation throughout its print systems. In the recent collaboration, Kammann’s K15 decorative print machine was used for digital printing of an image of a total of 180 mm in height, on all four sides of every glass bottle in three passes, serving the premium quality and efficient production, which was essential for this fascinating project.
The limited edition of Johnnie Walker bottles highlighted 50 original artworks by the popular pop artist Andy Gellenberg. Further, the artwork was advanced and improved with the help of generative AI to create an excellent collection. With each bottle, the project proves the power of digital print in providing customization at peak and gained popularity as an award winner at the digital labels and packaging awards in the supreme category this year. The major success of the project by far has been Xaar’s printhead technology involving its ultra-high viscosity technology that allows the jetting of fluids with increased viscosities by up to 1000 centipoise at a suitable temperature.
The rising demand for personalization is driven by consumers’ urge for unique products. The digital inkjet printing is designed to meet this need with less time and cost-effectiveness, including flexibility. This is the ideal solution for customized and limited-edition goods. Keeping this in mind, Xaar’s ultra-high viscosity technology also contributed to the sustainable production for this project by limiting material use. Director of Sales at Xaar, Justin Noble, commented that they are proud of their printhead technology’s performance and how it could play a major role in introducing this impressive art to life. He added, “This project emphasizes the commercial and creative capability of digital print, and the result of the same is a robust description of how brands can integrate customization into their strategy to leverage consumer experience. The expectation from personalization is rapidly growing, to which Xaar’s digital inkjet technology serves versatility, speed, and quality.”
