In July 2026, Kao Hong Kong and PARKnSHOP partnered to encourage consumers to reduce their plastic usage with the help of a sustainability campaign. The main aim of the campaign is centered on refill packs along with retail activations, educational experiences, and a donation drive to support WWF-Hong Kong. Running until 8 October, the “Protect the Environment with You” campaign aims to make “plastic reduction at source” part of everyday shopping habits by encouraging consumers to choose refill products over conventional packaging.

As part of the initiative, Kao will donate HK$1 to WWF-Hong Kong for every Kao refill pack purchased at PARKnSHOP stores and the PNS eShop during the three-month campaign. The funds will support the organisations conservation and environmental education programmes. The campaign also transforms TASTE Whampoa Garden into an interactive sustainability experience designed to educate shoppers about plastic waste and circular consumption.

The campaign is also inclusive of different types of eco-friendly activities for individuals attending the campaign. The main aim of the campaign is to provide necessary knowledge on sustainability, especially to kids and parents, along with improving their bonding. The parent-child workshops are focused on strengthening bonds between them, along with providing complete guidance on sustainability and highlighting the benefits of lowering the usage of plastic. Participants in the workshops will also be allowed to create accessories using recycled plastic beads.

The exclusive campaign also aims to share PARKnSHOP’s deep passion for environmental protection, inviting shoppers to appreciate the peaceful co-existence of humans, society, and nature, in addition to cultivating a sense of environmental awareness and responsibility.

Speaking on the collaboration, Toshiya Nishino, President of Kao (Hong Kong), said the campaign builds on the companies four-year ESG partnership while encouraging consumers to adopt refill products as a practical way to reduce plastic consumption.

“Refill packs use 69% less plastic than regular bottles, yet adoption in Hong Kong remains far below markets like Japan, highlighting a significant opportunity for change,” Nishino said. He added that the initiative aims to make sustainable choices more accessible while advancing Kaos vision of “Making Life Beautiful.”

The MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Freda Ng, chief operating officer, PARKnSHOP Hong Kong, said, “PARKnSHOP is dedicated to fostering a more sustainable future by giving back to the global community, driven by a passion for sustainability. Our vision is to work with and inspire our esteemed suppliers and customers with our sustained efforts in the manifestation of Eat Better, Live Better, both now and in the future, by following the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and achieving the 2030 Sustainability Vision.

She also states that retailers hope the campaign will encourage more environmentally friendly choices to make it more convenient for the customers. “Through this collaboration with Kao to introduce refill packs, we are enabling our customers to effortlessly integrate eco-friendly habits into their daily routines,” Ng said.

The whole experience space also features a “Plastic Reborn” installation created with the help of local eco-design studio, Gaau1 Up, which helps visitors to drive specially built cycles that can crush recycled plastics to demonstrate the upcycling process. The sustainability initiative allows shoppers to purchase any Kao refill pack at TASTE Whampoa Garden and also allows them to join limited-capacity DIY sustainability workshops. These workshops transform recycled plastics into colorful beads and accessories.

The campaign also invites visitors to pledge their commitment to reducing the usage of plastic to a greater extent in their daily lives through an interactive ESG installation. The campaign also involves selecting a few participants and gifting them eco-friendly tableware sets as part of their campaign’s launch activities. The initiative of the campaign majorly builds on Kao and PARKSHOP’s ongoing sustainability partnership, which previously introduced “Return.Recreate”. It is described as Hong Kongs first online recycling and upcycling programme.

Through the launch of its e-stamp redemption programme in Asia, the brand also introduced a series of eco-friendly outdoor products made of recycled materials, such as 100% post-consumer RPET, recycled polyester and ABS, and materials officially certified by TÜ V Rheinland, from the WWF FOR THE FUTURE Green Living Collection, to encourage the public to proactively participate in and adopt a more harmonious and environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Ng also stated that, “Throughout the campaign, we have successfully generated close to 200 clippings, and a total PR value of HK$67M,” she added, "Sustainability lies in intertwining our business with the cause, ensuring long-term viability and feasibility, fostering a sustainable future with our customers and business partners of PARKnSHOP together. This programme aims to mobilise a collective passion towards acting and living green."
