Zelestra and Graphic Packaging Start 50.4 MW Solar Project to Support Spain’s Clean Energy Goals

Zelestra and Graphic Packaging have started building a 50.4 MWdc solar plant in Pastrana, Guadalajara, to support Spain’s clean energy goals. The José Cabrera project is part of a three-plant solar portfolio under a long-term vPPA, helping deliver clean, reliable, and competitive renewable power in the Castilla-La Mancha region.

Zelestra, Graphic Packaging Launch 50.4 MWdc Solar Facility to Drive Spain’s Clean Energy Goals

Zelestra, a worldwide, multi-technology, consumer-focused renewable energy corporation, and Graphic Packaging, a worldwide leader in sustainable customer packaging, formally announced the start of construction of the 50.4 MWdc José Cabrera solar photovoltaic plant, now under construction in Pastrana, Guadalajara. The plan is one of 3 in Spain being transported as part of a long-standing vPPA with Graphic Packaging, with Socovos II (Albacete, 33 MWdc) recently fully operational and Villamañán (León, 19 MWdc) coming online by year-end.

The occurrence was attended by the Director General of Energy Transition of Castilla-La Mancha, Alipio García Rodríguez, the Provincial Delegate for Sustainable Development in Guadalajara, Rubén García Ortega, and the First Deputy Mayor of Pastrana, Sergio de la Fuente Gumiel.

 Luis Alvargonzález, Spain Country Manager of Zelestra, mentioned:

Thanks to the sustainability commitments of our consumer, Graphic Packaging, which has three solar projects in total, will soon be transporting clean energy for the future, supporting Spain in reaching its clean energy goals. The Castilla La Mancha region will also be important in the successful transport of these goals. In total, we now have approximately 600 MW of projects functioning in the region, and we are very appreciative of the support renewable energy obtains from the establishments here.”
