McKesson, a leading healthcare services company specializing in pharmaceutical distribution, medical supply management, and healthcare technologies, has created a new over-the-counter (OTC) product line named ‘Foster & Thrive’, which aims to provide affordable, eco-friendly, and attractive packaging. The packaging line uses aluminum packaging due to its eco-conscious nature.
The new product line includes an aluminum bottle, which is designed for recyclability and is one of the common recycled materials in the United States. The company claims that the new packaging is made from less than 70% plastic than the traditional bottles. This is gaining rapid popularity due to its eco-friendly appeal and affordability. The products include 10 of the most commonly used medicines in Health Mart pharmacies. It all comes from a partnership with Cabinet Health, which is the leading global sustainable healthcare company, that has low or no-plastic-container-packed medicines.
The consumers are more inclined towards using store-brand products for basic healthcare needs, which brings the introduction of Foster and Thrive. A recent report states that 89% of consumers trust private label brands more than the big-name brands in the healthcare industry. The major reason is the cheaper pricing and reliable product options for individuals.
"Now more than ever, patients are open-minded about the products they choose for over-the-counter (OTC) care," says Peter Koo, PharmD, vice president, Pharmacy & Healthcare Solutions at McKesson. "Private brands are increasingly becoming a good alternative to name brands and are being chosen just as frequently."
McKesson combined its two older brands, Health Mart and Sunmark, into one to introduce this new one, which includes over 270 products and is also available in local health pharmacies across the United States. The portfolio of the new brand includes products for everyday needs and acute care like pain, cold and flu, allergies, digestion, and first aid products. Additionally, the product line also includes blood pressure monitors, vitamins, thermometers, and many more.
The senior manager, category management at McKesson, Megan Baccam, also said that the partnership with independent pharmacies and offering affordable pricing products as compared to national brands is helping to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for individuals.
