Misfits Market, a leading online grocery delivery service based in the United States, acquired ‘The Rounds,’ known for delivering reusable packaging in their deliveries. The Rounds on their website mentioned that the merging of both companies is a good fit due to their focus on reducing food waste and on the environment.
The founder and CEO of Misfits Market, Abhi Ramesh, in a press conference, said that the acquisition is a joint mission of both companies that aims to reduce waste and inefficiency in the supply chain and also expand their offering to consumers throughout the country. “The Rounds earned a loyal following by making low-waste, high-quality shopping seamless on a local level. We're excited to welcome their members to Misfits Market, where that same mission continues at a national scale with more selection and deeper impact,” he added.
This is the company’s second acquisition in the last few years, as the company previously acquired its rival Imperfect Foods in 2022. This deal helped the company to grow its SKU count from about 500 to 700. It also helped the company expand its delivery footprint to about 90% of all the U.S. zip codes.
The company also said that both are focusing on innovating sustainable solutions for online grocery delivery, which will use eco-friendly materials, product sizing according to their needs. They also mentioned that they have already started implementing these solutions and have reduced packaging waste and emissions.
The CEO and Co-founder of The Rounds, Alex Torrey, said that they have a great opportunity for advancing in their shared missions, reimagining how individuals can access quality grocery essentials more sustainably.
Misfits also mentioned expanding their B2B offerings with some of the largest corporate and multifamily operators within the nation.
