Orora has started using a new digital print resolution, able to straight print to cans at high speed, at its Dandenong workshop. Industry title Print21 which appeared the inauguration last week, stated that this new Helio solution is relay on a Velox NNC 500 machine, “removes the requirement for plates, tags or sleeves”; and is able to uninitiated “photorealistic, full-colour” embellishment directly onto make out aluminium beverage cans at a speed of up to 500 cans per minute.
“Helio permits us to take this even additional as prime packaging plays a significant part in the advertising mix, with convincing decoration manipulating the product acquisition decision,” said Chris Smith, who is the Executive General Manager of Orora Cans.
The Helio structure is built on Velox IDS-NC 500 technology, which is the first of its kind to be connected in the southern hemisphere, and according to Orora, it also established the company as the first canmaker worldwide to incorporate this type of press straight into a can business line. Now completely operative and entrenched into the site’s second manufacturing line, Helio is transporting photorealistic, complete-colour embellishment directly onto make-out aluminum beverage cans at a rate of up to 500 units every minute. The resolution offers Orora with a lithe and extremely responsive production ability, suited to beverage sections comprising craft beer, RTDs, carbonated soft drinks, sparkling water, and kombucha.
The direct-to-shape (DTS) expertise at the heart of Helio eradicates the necessity for plates, tags, or shrink sleeves. In its place, digital artwork is sent straight to press, permitting near-instant exchanges and cost-effective production of short and mid-size editions. This permits brands to easily generate seasonal movements, test-market products, or implement targeted elevations with negligible lead time.
Chris Smith, executive general manager of Orora Cans, says Helio marks a major shift in how brands can engage with consumers through packaging. “Primary packaging plays an increasingly important role in influencing the purchase decision,” Smith said. “With Helio, we can offer customers greater freedom to express their brand personality through packaging, with fast turnarounds, no tooling costs, and high-end visual effects previously only possible on long runs.”
