The company comes with a strong background and track record in marine technology; following this, the company sells products like radar, sonar, autopilots, and chartplotters. Each product is harnessed with robust service engagements.
DS Smith is widely recognized as a leader in eco-friendly, fiber-based packaging, offering a comprehensive portfolio of innovative packaging solutions, integrated recycling services, and paper products for industries worldwide. The company continues to strengthen its presence through rapid expansion in the US and a well-established European footprint. DS Smith is also known for forming strategic partnerships with businesses to reduce costs, minimize waste, and improve supply chain efficiency.
DS Smith and Raymarine have partnered to introduce a new alternative solution to single-use plastics, offering a convenient and suitable option that integrates seamlessly into the company’s product packaging line. This new packaging solution is a combination of the two companies' potent formulation.
During the making, DS Smith used its effective fiber-based corrugated cardboard materials, replacing them with Raymarine’s existing solution of expanded polyethylene (EPE foam). This modification implements new changes and a chance to prove its potential value. The DS Smith’s designers comprised the perpendicular trimmed corrugated cardboard flute, fixing to a 90-degree angle to the packaging line.
The solution was developed to enhance structural strength and improve shock resistance during handling and transport. In addition, DS Smith incorporated engineered crumple-zone layers designed to dissipate impact forces in the event of a collision, along with fiber-based air-cushion elements that provide added support and protective stability within the pack. This advanced packaging design safeguards Raymarine’s Quantum radar products against potential transit and handling risks.
This new packaging’s motto is to promote flexibility and customization in all desired sizes for packaging. Alongside the changes, DS Smith has beaten plastic and smartly mitigated its CO2 emissions footprint by almost 60%, which is more satisfying than Raymarine’s existing packaging solutions.
Cluster director, DS Smith, Hungary, Levente Szabo, said, “This packaging for Raymarine is made from 84% recycled materials against 40% in existing packaging with 100% recyclability rate. With this partnership, we have succeeded in replacing EPE, following which we can help manufacturers in the industrial and consumer sectors.”
