Britannia Industries Limited, recognized as one of India’s leading food companies, has partnered with packaging technology pioneer Sidel to implement its first-ever aseptic PET packaging line for its dairy beverages. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for Britannia’s Winkin’ Cow portfolio, enabling the company to enhance production efficiency while maintaining product quality and safety.
By adopting Sidel’s advanced aseptic PET technology, Britannia can scale its dairy drink operations, meet growing consumer demand, and strengthen its presence in the competitive dairy beverage market across India. This strategic move not only reflects Britannia’s commitment to innovation in packaging but also underscores its focus on delivering high-quality, safe, and convenient products to consumers.
Britannia entered the dairy drinks business in 2018, with value-added dairy drinks under the Winkin’ Cow portfolio. Britannia made a planned decision to partner with Sidel, which is a worldwide leader in packaging innovation with five decades of proficiency in aseptic PET packaging. The objective was to offer a complete aseptic PET packaging option at Britannia’s greenfield dairy factory in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, India.
“Sidel delivered Britannia end-to-end support, allowing them to unlock the complete potential of their dairy beverage,” expresses Harbinder Kathuria, Vice President, Sales, South Asia.
“From bottle and label plan to product-packaging authentication, the line has authorized Britannia to enlarge its dairy beverage portfolio and deliver safe, superior-quality products with improved packaging flexibility to Indian customers since 2023.”
As a technology and solutions partner, Sidel helped Britannia during the whole journey, taking care to always fulfil their expectations and timing. From the original line design and technical arrangement to the installation, appointing, and final ramp-up, this close partnership confirmed a smooth, effectual and completely aligned execution during the entire procedure.
“The backing from Sidel wasn’t limited to the line equipment; it went much further,” clarifies Abhishek Sinha, Chief Sales Transformation Officer, Britannia (formerly CBO – Dairy & CEO, BBFPL). “Sidel presented a comprehensive variety of services, comprising new packaging concept design, packing authentication, label endorsements, custom filling tests, and shelf-life studies. They offered everything we required to enter the aseptic PET segment and bring our new product to market with extreme confidence.”
To confirm the highest levels of food security, Sidel installed a full line with United Aseptic Combi Predis at the Britannia plant. The explanation, running at 24,000 bph, mixes preform sterilization, blow molding, filling, and capping into an exclusive process that confirms product honesty and an extended shelf life for delicate products.
