Milliken & Company introduced its Millad ClearX 9000, an excellent clarifying technology specifically for PP, engineered to provide ultra-clear visibility at the stage of mitigated additive loading. The solution is applicable for food packaging involving medical applications and home storage. The solution is built on the Millad platform. The Millad ClearX 9000 offers manufacturers an advanced solution that reduces the transfer and extraction rate of PP parts and packaging. This balance is considered crucial for medical and food contact applications. The technology promises improvements in process compatibility and eliminates the requirement for PCR resin streams and differentiated virgin materials, allowing for superior flexibility in composition. The technology will pave the way for advancements in PP food-grade packaging.

The senior vice president and managing director of Milliken’s plastic additives business, Wim van de Velde, said, “The Millad ClearX 9000 is a best break for the PP industry, offering ultra-clear visibility with alleviated clarifying additive and superior flexibility for our customers. This introduction mirrors Milliken’s recent dedication towards advancing material science and to support our partners perform excellently as per the market demands.”

The Millad ClearX 9000 has undergone extensive testing by the US Food and Drug Administration, meeting the conditions of usage approval (A-J), which enable its use in food-contact applications. By advancing additive compatibility, Milliken claims that the technology supports resin converters and producers significantly, helping them achieve rapid changeovers, reduced waste, and lower downtime. This serves to cumulatively advance manufacturing efficiency. The technology allows for improvisation in compatibility with different Millad clarifying agents, providing producers with the flexibility to utilize formulations for PCR PP and virgin.

The global product line manager of Milliken’s plastic additives business, Bhavesh Gandhi, said, “Our team established the Millad ClearX 9000 to identify the popular demand for efficiency and clarity in polypropylene applications. By mitigating additive loading and migration rates, we’re enabling our customers to generate products that are beyond visual appearance, as it also leverages standards for medical and food use.”

The company has been fueling innovation in PP. With the partnership with PureCycle Technologies, the company has established a ‘fully environmentally sustainable’ concentrate for recycled resin-based PP. With the help of its additives, Milliken makes a contribution to reinvigorating recycled PP, thereby generating circularity in the new material. The precise features and content are available on its website, and the entire details are outlined in the company’s privacy statement.
