Saica, a leading recycling and packaging service company, has acquired the corrugated and paperboard recovery business unit of FCC Ambito, a branch of FCC Enviro. With this acquisition, the Saica Group has extended its packaging engagement in Spain. The business unit adds the north and west regions of Spain and Madrid to its coverage.
The transaction process was held by Saica Natur, the company’s environmental and waste services division. This is a sustainable and thoughtful decision of Saica as it will contribute largely to the sustainable packaging industry. The company’s strategy aligns with the trend and demand for eco-friendly packaging. Most of the brands and packaging companies will be attracted to Saica’s smart move.
CEO and President of Saica Group, Susana Alejandro, said, “This is a smart move that merges our presence in Iberia. We are excited to expand a new inauguration to everyone at FCC Ambito, including the new partners and customers who will be embarking on a journey with Saica Group. This operation enables us to work with the brilliant team holding popular prestige in the market that will power up our value proposition for Iberian Peninsula customers.”
The acquired business work includes cardboard and paper recovery at first place, involving commercial and non-hazardous industrial waste. The company has now taken the responsibility of handling operations at FCC Ambito’s facilities in Valladolid, Vizcaya, Toledo, Leon, Asturias, Caceres, and Madrid in Spain. These facilities have above 150 employees.
CEO of FCC Enviro, Inigo Sanz, said, “This transaction is comforting and is also a piece of our policy of refining to elevate shareholder value and asset rotation. Further, the policy also strengthens the aim of our development strategy.” According to this acquisition deal, Saica Natur will have 47 facilities, of which 36 are in Spain, and the remaining are in the United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal, and France, with over 1,700 employees.
In October, the company revealed a breakthrough on its upcoming corrugated packaging manufacturing facility in Anderson, Indiana. It's Saica’s second robust corrugated packaging site in the United States. The facility will be inaugurated in the region in the fourth quarter of 2026, and it's planned to create around 1.2 million sq. ft. of corrugated packaging yearly. Alongside, Saica Group has declared its investment of $800 million in the U.S. market under its 2021 plans, involving its packaging plant in Hamilton, Ohio, and the Anderson facility.
