SIG, a leading provider of aseptic packaging solutions, headquartered in Neuhausen, Switzerland, announced that its first aseptic carton setup in India is now completely operational. The facility, located in Ahmedabad, was built in just 20 months and started manufacturing in one of the world’s most active markets.
India is the world’s largest milk market and a major juice-producing country, offering development opportunities for aseptic packaging solutions. SIG’s plant in the state of Gujarat will source the company’s rising filler base, helping leading dairy and non-carbonated soft drink producers in India. With its full working capacity, it will also help as an export hub for neighboring countries in Asia, helping to enhance regional trade and offering foreign exchange revenues and export tax advantages for the nation.
With manufacturing scaling up, the plant can generate more than 300 employment opportunities in Gujarat and several others in ancillary services and supply chains. The capability is the tenth aseptic carton packaging plant in SIG’s global manufacturing network, underlining the company’s long-term pledge to India and the broader Asia region.
“Bringing this capacity into full process is a significant milestone for SIG and a robust reflection of our global policy,” said Christoph Wegener, Chief Markets Officer at SIG. “At SIG, technology is expressive only when it generates real value across the whole ecosystem for customers, partners, and the planet. This setup will strengthen our ability to serve a fast-growing region with intelligent, future-ready packing arrangements that combine speed, presentation, and flexibility. We continue to be dedicated to building companies, unlocking new potentials for our consumers, and helping India’s position as a growing hub for progressive food & beverage manufacturing.”
Since entering the Indian market in 2018, SIG has experienced rapid business expansion. The Ahmedabad facility positions the company to efficiently meet growing demand while providing greater flexibility to support both domestic needs and export growth across Asia.
Abdelghany Eladib, President & General Manager, India, Middle East and Africa at SIG, said: “India is a key pillar of our regional strategy – dynamic, ambitious, and rich with opportunity. With this world-class facility now fully operational, we are better positioned to support our customers with greater agility while creating meaningful employment and strengthening local value chains. The plant will not only address India’s growing demand but also enhance the country’s role in regional dairy and beverage exports. This milestone reflects the dedication of our team and the strong partnerships that continue to drive SIG’s progress across IMEA.”
