SPAR Austria declares to have saved 14 tonnes of plastic yearly by shifting from a conventional tray-and-lid method for meat products to a flow pack option grown by CRYOVAC that utilizes 70% less plastic by weight.
The industries report that a packaging pilot assumed, in response to the PPWR, at SPAR Austria’s TANN provision in Marchtrenk also reported that the new pack decrease CO₂ releases by nearly 70%. Additional research is now taking place with the focus of rolling the new option out to other SPAR and TANN plant sites across Europe.
In the guide, the brands express that the pack, based on CRYOVAC’s MonoPP Flowpack arrangement, matches the previously-utilized option’s block performance while preserving the same shelf-life. CRYOVAC expresses that the option is accredited as recyclable by Cyclos-HTP Institute and can be incorporated with the current recycling organization in countries with established PP recycling programs.
Temporarily, an output of 44 packs per minute was supposedly attained, with no improvement in waste or reject rates, meaning that united warehouse processes now need 176 fewer pallets per year.
Markus Zavec, Sales Director for Austria, Germany and Switzerland at Sealed Air, said: “SPAR Austria’s traditional tray-and-lid structure was associated with escalating charges, comprising financial, environmental, and operational. The packaging consumed substantial resources, required extreme warehouse functionality, and had problematic recycling routes. The pilot was a crucial and early shift to focus on these challenges.
“In addition to decreasing packaging resources utilization and CO₂ releases, the CRYOVAC® company MonoPP Flowpack has also offered broader brand advantages for SPAR Austria. Two-thirds of shoppers answered positively, understanding the product familiarity and comfort of opening supplied by Sealed Air’s packaging option.”
