Trivium Packaging Takes Major Step Toward Net-Zero with SBTi Approval

Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved Trivium Packaging’s Net-zero target, in addition to the company’s long-standing convincing progress in greenhouse gas reduction. The goal regarding this progress is coupled with a universal objective and a 1.5°C pathway to travel, challenging the hurdles to reach the net-zero emissions destination throughout its value chain.

This Netherlands-based company is known for its recyclable metal and sustainable packaging for beverages, food, aerosols, etc. Trivium is dedicated and sincere towards the environmental causes that have questioned the value of the packaging. Companies expanded operations and workforce throughout many regions, and their facilities in South America, North America, and Europe have largely gained trust and recognition. With this strong footprint in the sustainable packaging market, Trivium’s recent net-zero target is making headlines in the vast packaging market.

The target received approval from Trivium Packaging B.V., a commitment that promises to meet success in cutting down greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value chain by 2050. Most probably, the packaging giants have a profit element or resolution to their new internal development initiatives, satisfying short-term success, but Trivium has come up with a long-term goal. Trivium has a strong understanding and grip on environmental concerns.

Chief Executive Officer at Trivium Packaging, Michael Mapes, said, “The approval from SBTi has doubled our partners and teams' confidence in our dedication to decarbonize. We will fix our aim on sustainable sourcing, considering eco-design, reducing our energy consumption rate, and accelerating our usage of renewable electricity without compromising efficiency. Our progress will be visible every year.”

The overall motive of this net-zero target is to alleviate the absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by 90.0%. This is the responsibility of Trivium to achieve full-fledged progress in the net-zero target. Prioritizing major sustainable elements in the packaging market, along with the sincere use of renewable resources, the company is raising the standard bar of sustainability. The company’s responsible behavior is impressive.

Weighing the progress until Dec 2024 vs. 2020, Trivium has successfully reduced emissions by 31% (Scope 1 and 2) since 2020 and 19% (Scope 3). The company has strongly grounded its position for years with CDP A List and EcoVadis Platinum footprint. Now the company is all set to bolster its base with its new SBTi-approved journey. Continuing to spread awareness and promote an environment-centric packaging solution is Trivium’s motive.
