ALAPA Group, a plastic packaging specialist, has signed an agreement to acquire KM Packaging, a Germany-based packaging company. The acquisition aims to improve ‘ALPLAinject division of the company. The transaction details have not been disclosed by either company, and it has stated that the completion remains subject to regulatory approval from the competition authorities.
KM packaging employs around 500 people to produce 6.5 billion injection-moulded parts each year. The acquisition will expand ALPLA’s manufacturing capabilities, including tubes, bottles, and jars, and additionally, six additional sites across the U.S., Germany, Poland, and Austria.
Nicolas Lehnar, the CCO at ALPLA, said, “The smooth combination of close customer relationships, technological expertise, and a focus on sustainability aligns closely with our profile. The added know-how will boost our role as a leading developer, manufacturer, and recycler of plastic packaging.”
KM Packaging, formed in 2008 through the merger of family-owned companies, will be integrated into ALPLAinject as a part of the signed agreement. The product portfolio of the company includes standardized and custom-made closures, dispensing systems, caps, and jars made from polypropylene and polyethylene (PE), which are used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food industries. Further it will also offer screw caps and flip-tops made of high-density PE for monomaterial packaging applications.

Integration into the ALPLA ‘Family of Pioneers’ will secure the future of the sites, jobs, and customer relationships.”
Earlier this year, ALPLA expanded its Asia-Pacific operation by launching a new plant in Thailand, aiming to strengthen its production capacity in the country. It is located near Bangkok with an over 24,000M2 site, and will stand as a production and administration hub for product development.
