The recycling master MYGroup and the British Beauty Council have entered into a partnership to address hard-to-recycle waste in the beauty packaging sector. Together, both companies will achieve their mission by extending recycling initiatives associated with the Great British Beauty Clean Up 2026 campaign. The partnership is focused on identifying a crucial gap in the previous recycling infrastructure that prevents most packaging formats and cosmetic products from being a part of the recycling stream.
Many beauty products fail to meet recycling standards because components such as makeup compacts, mascara tubes, pumps, and other small, mixed-material parts cannot be effectively processed by conventional municipal recycling facilities.
Under this one-of-a-kind, purpose-built initiative, MYGroup will operate a take-back scheme enabling salons, spas, retailers, and beauty brands to participate. Participants will collect empty beauty packaging and products that are not typically recyclable. The collected waste will be sorted and processed at MYGroup’s facilities, where the materials will be transformed into new products such as combs, furniture, and mirrors. The initiative combines technical recycling expertise with creative design, turning complex beauty waste into functional, high-quality items.
Group director, MYGroup, Steve Carrie, said, “We are aware that the industry is very ambitious to cut its waste footprint, but the consumers are still finding it difficult to recycle most of the regular beauty items at their home setting. Our partnership with the British Beauty Council on the Great British Beauty Clean Up aims to eliminate the barriers and offer businesses in on-point way to cover what the edge of the systems can’t.”
Carrie added, “We feel that there must be a rapid convergence between waste management partners and beauty brands to form a robust system and adapt the strength to define a more sustainable market. The industry's popular new materials innovation and take-back schemes at our Bio-Park and the impact we’re generating via SchoolCycled are impressive. With the guidance of the MYGroup, we could step into the next chapter of our excellence.”
The programme is further strengthened by its alignment with the Great British Beauty Clean Up 2026, an industry-wide campaign scheduled to take place from 2–30 March 2026. The campaign aligns with major international sustainability milestones, including United Nations Zero Waste Day and Global Recycling Day.
