INX International introduced a new lamination system to its sustainable inks portfolio at FORUM INFOFLEX. The new launch Innova Plus NFC is a nitrocellulose-free flexographic ink that provides a reliable performance across all flexible packaging solutions without the need for nitrocellulose, which makes it easy for recycling purposes.
The new launch by the company aims to meet the requirement for growing demand for inks with mono-material packaging. The demand for the new ink is expected to gain wider popularity due to new regulatory initiatives by the United States and Europe, which mandate recycling and sustainable goals in their packaging solutions.
The European packaging industry is highly attracted to the demand for these inks to perceive their impact of material recovery and recycling processes. Renee Schouten, vice president of marketing at INX, said that the ink represents less than 1% of the package's total weight, whereas it can also enable more efficient recycling. She also mentioned that these packaging designs focus on recycling and material recovery, which is encouraging the brand owners and converters to adopt these designs in the United States.
The INX vice president also said that “States like California, Colorado, Maine, and Oregon have already passed Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). It’s only a matter of time before others follow.” The increasing efforts from EPR are also being implemented on the global level, like Europe’s packaging waste regulation, which will become stricter in the coming times, she added.
The new innovation is also helping in delivering exceptional performance benefits like superior print quality, reliable consistency, and adhesion across packaging formats.
