Rhima Pvt Ltd announced a partnership with Rethink Recycling, based in Victoria, to support the reduction of plastic waste through education, community engagement, and practical recycling solutions.

Rhima has donated a GS-40 commercial dishwasher to rethink as a part of their Rethink, Reuse, Rhima sustainability program. The company is using the machine to sanitise thousands of plastic bottle caps, which are collected from public places. The whole process also ensures that these plastics are ready for processing into further products.

The caps are cleaned and sorted on the basis of the resin code and color before being processed further for repurposing. The Rethink Recycling company further transforms the lids into new items that can be used in various products, like school supplies, to unique art pieces.

The strategic move by Rhima and Rethink is playing a crucial role in shaping the views on perceived plastic on how to make a valuable use of it, rather than just a waste.

The co-founder of Rethink, Kym O-Shannassy, stated that the organisation has collected more than 600 kilograms of plastic caps in the past year alone, with one instance of 150 kilograms on a single day. By diverting this material from landfill, the cooperative demonstrates how small individual actions can add up to a significant environmental impact when channelled through community-led initiatives.

The companies are running strong focus on education through workshops in schools and other groups across Melbourne and its nearby areas. These initiatives are playing a crucial role in building a long-term awareness of sustainability and inspiring positive changes for the future generation.

The partnership of Rhima is a strong statement of their commitment to sustainable practices and partnerships. They further aim to boost the circular economy solutions across Australia’s packaging industry.
