Wildsmith, a leading botanical beauty brand, announced their partnership with Shellworks for their latest launch, ‘hydrating light cream’, which comes in 100% compostable packaging. The product is being put under a vivomer jar that is being paired with fully recyclable outer packaging, representing the company’s commitment to sustainable beauty. Vivomer is a plastic alternative, which is designed to provide stable and scalable performance.
The material is crafted from a biopolymer produced by natural microbes and derived from plants, offering the exceptional strength and durability of plastic without harming the environment. Shellworks, a leading sustainable packaging company, describes it as naturally pigmented and beautifully functional.
Vivomer is a special kind of material that can be broken down naturally, despite of putting it in soil, home compost, or a landfill. The bacteria see it as a food source and start eating it over time. The material can be seen breaking down after putting it in a home compost after around 3 months, and can be seen vanish in around 52 weeks. The company previously introduced the material in March through active repair copper peptide cream and ceramide repair balm. Now, these sustainable packaging solutions are being extended to other products.
Wildsmith GM, Katherine Pye, said that from their first meeting with Shellworks, the team has been inspired by their stand towards reimagining a world without plastic. “The introduction of Vivomer in 2025 is a demonstration of their commitment towards constant innovation in minimizing the environmental impact in sustainable and conscious packaging,” she added.
The Shellworks co-founder also stated his views, saying, “We met Wildsmith early in our journey, and its focus on constantly improving their impact has kept us close over the years. At Shellworks, we love working with pioneering brands like Wildsmith, which are eager to help shape the future of an industry and change our relationship to plastic."
