Amcor offers a wide portfolio of innovative packaging solutions serving medical, personal care, home care, pharmaceutical, and food & beverage brands. The company’s core expertise spans rigid containers, closures, specialty cartons, and flexible packaging, which is clearly reflected in product lines such as AmFiber and EcoGuard. Known for aligning closely with evolving industry trends, Amcor demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental sustainability through the development of lightweight, reusable, and recyclable packaging solutions.
The French-based organic food producer, Alter Eco, inked a deal with Amcor. This is the trust Amcor has earned in the packaging industry, as Alter is another company to witness Amcor’s precision and sharp packaging. As per the need of Alter, the packaging the company is looking for its 200g chocolate bars should be lightweight and paper wrapped.
Amcor will first replace the existing format involving inner aluminum foil and cardboard edges with only paper-based content. The main plan of this reconstruction was to cut the packaging weight without compromising the shelf appearance of the product, and obviously, product safety is the first priority. This is the best sustainability strategy of Alter to not only initiate improvement but also to stay in the green game for the sustainable tomorrow of the packaging world.
For this thought, Amcor used its AmFiber™ Performance Paper to offer a shield to eatables like chocolates. This idea was brought into consideration after a conversation with Swiss chocolate manufacturer, co-packer HALBA, and Alter Eco. Learning that a few of the chocolate bars contain whole almonds, the packaging continued to smoothly cover the chocolate, accompanying it to its textured surface.
Luckily, this need was noticed while performing the protection layer to prevent grease and moisture. Amcor successfully achieved 61% of weight reduction and the FSC®-certified fiber making packaging suitable to recyclable process in the paper pipeline in France. This solution also satisfied 4evergreen and CEPI guidelines. Overall, the deal worked like magic for Alter and Amcor lived an opportunity on point.
R&D pack manager at Alter Eco, Anne Descarsin, said, “This work demonstrates our dedication towards merging a commendable quality with less environmental impact and specializing in innovation at its peak. Accomplishing the thinner packaging design that not only safeguards the essence of the chocolate and product is truly a win over a technical challenge and of course a crucial decision for Alter Eco to take.”
