Plastic Packaging Innovation DataLase’s Clear-to-White Coating Reduces Labels

As brands around the globe are accelerating the shift toward label-free packaging to decrease waste, improve recyclability, and fulfill tightening sustainability targets, DataLase, a leader in laser printing choices, has launched a revolutionary clear-to-white coating for plastic bottles. The new solution offers an alternative to traditional labels, removing filmic and paper resources while delivering full label-equivalent functionality. The coating allows brands to significantly decrease packaging without compromising presentation or visual influence.

Designed for incorporation into high-speed bottling lines with spray-coating units, the advanced DataLase coating is appropriate for PET, PP, and PC bottles and enhanced for beverage, personal care, and pharmaceutical usages. Once applied, the bottle surface can be laser-imaged utilizing CO₂, fiber, or UV lasers, manufacturing a high-opacity white image on a clear background with excellent clarity.

This process eradicates the requirement for inks, labels, or other consumables throughout imaging and guarantees consistent, laser-sharp print quality at manufacturing speed. The technology provides full label-equivalent functionality, allowing connectivity through QR codes, nutritional data, regulatory content, brand logos, and date/lot codes. Every bottle can be personalized or customized instantly, without postponing production, permitting brands to tailor messaging, serialization, or publicity content on a unit-by-unit basis.

Commenting on the introduction, Ally Grant, CTO at DataLase, expressed: “Brands are under high pressure to decrease packaging waste while maintaining the functionality and quality customers expect. Our label-free coating permits both. By eliminating inks, films, and paper labels, we’re not only supporting manufacturers in cutting resource use and simplifying their operations, but also permitting a level of flexibility and personalization that traditional categories can’t match. It’s a sincerely transformative step forward for sustainable bottle adornment and one that brings into line perfectly with the industry’s ecological goals.”

Beyond image superiority, the coating permits manufacturers to significantly decrease SKUs, improve equipment uptime, and reduce warehousing charges, creating meaningful operational advantages. By eliminating traditional label stocks from the supply chain, it shortens sourcing, reduces ecological impact, and streamlines the complete packaging process. With no plastic or paper label waste produced, recyclability is enhanced, and waste management needs are reduced. The coating itself is heat, water, scuff, and rub resistant, guaranteeing durability through distribution. Formulated to comply with guidelines for non-direct food contact packaging, it brought it into line with modern packaging and product safety standards.
