Mondi’s re/loop PillowBag is constructed for recycling and is consistent with recognized mechanical recycling issues for polyolefins. Encompassing 50% recycled content, it is anticipated to reduce virgin plastic expenditure and align with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)’s requirement to integrate 35% recycled content from post-consumer plastic litter by January 2030.

Mondi has operated a mass balance method under its ISCC PLUS accreditation in search of clarity and traceability throughout its supply chain. The wrapping has also been reviewed according to Mondi’s Path to Circularity Scorecard and the CEFLEX D4ACE standards.

re/loop PillowBag is also planned for cost-efficiency, accessibility, and consumer pull. The easy-opening pattern is set to update practical management and daily usage, and enhanced-quality print is anticipated to fuel its shelf presence.

By developing the option across several German retailers, Dreco aims to stay ahead of incoming controlling deadlines and reduce its reliance on virgin plastics.

“Decreasing the ecological influence of our packaging is of major importance for us, but execution is important for products such as powder detergent,” expresses Milo Drehsen, owner and managing director at Dreco. “Working with Mondi has permitted us to establish an option that mixes high recycled matter with the safety our products need. Introducing this packaging around retailers in Germany points to a crucial step in our sustainability drive.”

Sandor Kardos, managing director at Mondi Békéscsaba, complements: “This project demonstrates how technical knowledge and shared sustainability focuses can offer practical, scalable options. Together with Dreco, we have grown an enhanced PCR packaging choice for a moisture-sensitive usage that is planned for recycling, support our consumer shift ahead of management, while fulfilling today’s market prospects.”

In similar news, Mondi has supported Werner & Mertz in growing a recyclable stand-up pouch covering post-consumer household recycled waste for cleaning goods. It is described as the first in the industry to be fully recyclable. The bag is planned to consist of 27% post-consumer recycled content and utilize 70% less plastic than a bottle of the same volume.
