Henkel and Sekab Advance Sustainable Packaging with Bio-Based Adhesives

Henkel Adhesive Technologies is a leading producer of functional coatings, sealants, and adhesives, generating billions in annual sales through its sustainable solutions. The company focuses on developing products that can be reused, repurposed, and repaired to help reduce waste and support circularity. Its strong brand integration and diverse portfolio continue to drive innovation across industries.

Sekab is a cleantech and chemical company specializing in biofuels and bio-based chemicals derived from cellulose-based feedstocks and other renewable resources. The company champions sustainable solutions by reducing carbon emissions and offering low-carbon alternatives to fossil-based raw materials.

Sekab and Henkel have signed an agreement to advance the use of bio-based raw materials as alternatives to fossil-based inputs in adhesive production. Recognizing the need for truly eco-conscious materials in sustainable packaging, the companies aim to drive meaningful material transitions that support lower-carbon solutions. Under this collaboration, conventional ethyl acetates will be replaced with a bio-based alternative, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable innovation.

The renewable raw materials in the formulation theory make the product more justifiable with a valid and natural solution. These efforts of Henkel are ready to meet the needs of environmental concern and climate-focused industries. Henkel has always been a strategist and optimistic for sustainable strategies, and has always encouraged customers to achieve the gold environmental goal through adhesive technologies. This partnership is just an unfolding vast page documenting Henkel and its partners' activities.

Head of sustainability for the packaging division at Henkel Adhesive Technologies, Elodie Picard, said, “We feel proud to partner with Sekab in this sustainable raw materials mission. This deal mirrors our commitment to innovate with effective performance solutions, which will be beneficial for the environment and customers.”

Henkel never stayed back in cracking a deal when it comes to serving the environment, be it the Ravenwood Packaging acquisition or its partnership with Packsize to introduce Eco-Pax. Head of sales and business development at Sekab, Adam Lindholm, said, “Our partnership with Henkel illustrates how no fossil, bio-based chemicals can be added to the previous value chains without sacrificing the performance value.”

This is the upliftment and encouragement to fossil independent chemical industry. Together we can work, aligning with the value chain and introducing eco-friendly raw materials in the market with more environmental benefits.”
