In June 2026, Mother Dairy introduced India’s first biodegradable milk pouches. The biodegradable pouches are available across the Delhi-NCR regions. The pouches are available from World Environment Day. The cow milk variant is available in the new pouches.

The new pouch is easily broken down into soil and does not leave any microplastics behind. The new pouch uses bioavailable wax technology for the decomposition of the pouch. The new pouch maintains the shelf life, quality, and taste of milk.

The transition to biodegradable pouches does not charge any additional cost to the customer. The initial size of pouches is 1 liter and 500 ml. Along with biodegradable packaging, the company is also redesigning its packaging, which includes a Note of Care brand element, brighter visuals, and modern aesthetics.

The managing director of the company says the development of the biodegradable pouch takes more than 4 years. The ability to degrade is a major differentiator for pouch. The new pouch takes some years to degrade into soil. The new biodegradable pouches are a sustainable solution for conventional milk pouches, which reduces plastic waste.

The biodegradable pouch helps in massive waste reduction and maintains the price point. The pouch does not produce toxic residues, and the breakdown process of the pouch is eco-friendly.
