Sabert Launches Breakthrough Solution for Next-Generation Food Packaging

PULPUltra is made from over 95% bagasse fibers and is protected with a barrier spray coating of less than 5%. The material is freezer-safe and designed to maintain the integrity of frozen products, preserve the freshness of unprocessed goods, and protect factory-prepared foods. It is suitable for both single PET sealing and multiple welding applications, offering strong versatility for food packaging. PULPUltra is recyclable under the UK’s Recycling Assessment Methodology (RAM), compliant with the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and certified as compostable under TÜV OK Compost Industrial standards.

A home-compostable certification is also expected to be announced soon. Sabert stated that PULPUltra outperforms existing market alternatives, including laminated products, while remaining fully compliant with current regulations. Alex Noake, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Sabert Europe, described PULPUltra as a “game-changing” next-generation solution with no intentionally added PFAS, meeting both legislative requirements and consumer expectations for high strength and heat resistance.

Isabelle Ernotte, Sabert quality environment, health & safety manager, expressed: “Every product we make is thoroughly tested to fulfil with food safety standards. From 12 August 2026, Regulation (EU) No 40/2025 on PPWR presents new measures, comprising Article 5(5) paragraph 5, of Regulation (EU) No 40/2025 which restricts and declares limits on the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often mentioned as chemicals’ because of their perseverance in the ecology and the human body. Sabert’s PULPUltra will help consumers to stay ahead of these shifts with products that already fulfil the next generation of sustainability standards.

Sabert’s PULP Ultra® will support consumers to stay ahead of these shifts with goods that already fulfil the next generation of sustainability values.”

At launch, PULP Ultra® won the Green Apple Awards’ National Silver in the Paper & Packaging category from The Green Organization. “This award recognizes our promise to invention and compliance with growing European morals,” concludes Alex Noake. “To bring into line with new regulatory necessities, Sabert has changed its complete pulp portfolio into the HC (home compostable) variety, and we are proud to be introducing PULP Ultra® across Europe.

Over a decade before, Sabert was the first to bring a superior, functional bagasse pulp packaging option to the European market,” expresses Alex Noake, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Sabert Europe. “Now, we are revolutionary PULP Ultra®, a game-changing upcoming-generation, no-deliberately-added-PFAS formulation that fulfils both legislative values and customers’ expectations for excellent strength and heat resistance.”
