Scanfill has presented Scanfoil rPP POP, an advanced plastic film manufactured from post-consumer recycled polypropylene and released for food-contact utilization. The presentation focuses on an industry where demand for enhanced-grade recycled PP has overtaken equipment, stated the company. Material of this variety with a food-contact agreement has been sought in Europe for a longer period. The film comes in different clarity grades and is provided in large containers. Scanfill expressed that its performance fits that of virgin PP. The resource comprises 30% post-consumer recycled PP and was established with the forthcoming PPWR rules in mind.
Scanfill area sales manager Niklas Linde expressed: “What we can now provide is a clear foil based on recycled PP that is authorized for food contact since Regulation 2022/1616 came into force. This is a key growth, and we are very happy to be able to provide it to our consumers. “For our consumers, this foil means an approach to an enhanced-quality recycled plastic foil, although it also contributes to decreased contamination in coastal regions. Those involved can also find out accurately which geographical section their plastic can be tracked back to.” According to the company, the result is completely traceable and recyclable, with the recycled input obtained from plastic cups collected in coastal parts of Southeast Asia, where they might then end up contaminating rivers and seas.
