Texas Instruments (TI) announced the launch of DLP991UUV (DMD), a digital micromirror device. The device is a solution for digital lithography, containing 8.9 million pixels, a sub-micron solution, and a data rate of 110 gigapixels per second. This device eliminates the need for expensive mask technology without compromising the precision method, scalability, and cost important for critical packaging applications.
Maskless digital lithography is in high demand in advanced packaging manufacturing, which unifies various technologies and chips into a compact system for enhanced performance in this highly competitive computing environment, such as 5G and data centers. TI’s DLP technology enables system assembly equipment manufacturers to implement this method for superior solution printing needed in advanced packaging. Along with the DLP991UUV delivering as a programmable photomask that promises great speed and pixel-accurate output, the method circulates and achieves excellence.
The general manager and vice president of DLP technology at TI, Jeff Marsh, said,
“Just as we experience cinema by allowing the transition potential from film into the digital projection, TI’s DLP technology has again come to the forefront of a key industry momentum shift. We’re allowing and promoting the innovation of maskless digital lithography systems that encourage engineers across the globe to break through the latest limits of advanced packaging and introduce robust computing solutions to the market globally.”
The technology operates at a power of 22.5 W/cm² at 405nm and is functional as low as 343nm wavelength with the compact mirror pitch in the portfolio. DLP technology optimizes vast numbers of microscopic mirrors, transforming them into a superior-resolution display and enhanced light control suited for numerous applications, including smart automotive lighting, definitive home theater projections, and precise machine vision and lithography, which is particularly well-suited for industrial manufacturing. Recently, the preproduction quantity of the DLP991UUV DMD is available for purchase on TI.com, offering various payment and shipping options.
Texas Instruments has identified the scalable, precise, and cost-effective lithography technology needed. This technology enables sub-micron precision on numerous substrate sizes, accelerating yield and throughput, and minimizing defects. These advancements and improvements are crucial as manufacturers seek solutions to meet the demand for low-power and high-bandwidth components in 5G networks and AI systems. This presents a development and opportunity for packaging manufacturers to upgrade and scale up their performance, offering convenience and affordability.
