Woodberry Packaging Expands with Medica and FG Curtis Acquisitions

Woodberry Packaging has strengthened its presence in the UK and Ireland by acquiring Medica Packaging and FG Curtis. The expansion enhances its capabilities in pharmaceutical, healthcare, and personal care packaging while improving supply reliability.

Woodberry Packaging has declared the procurement of Medica Packaging and F.G. Curtis, two British packaging producers. The shift in focus to reinforce Woodberry’s situation across Europe and improve its potential across the personal care, pharmaceutical, and healthcare packaging industries. The two trades will continue to function under their current brands and handling, confirming continuity for suppliers, personnel, and customer relationships. The expanded group now employs over 650 people across the UK and Ireland and has a mixed turnover in additional of €120 million (US$137 million). Financial terminology of the transaction was not disclosed.

Peter Santo, chief executive at Woodberry Packaging Group, expresses: “The procurement of Medica and Curtis is a step in building our group across Europe. This is part of a transparent, long-term plan of bringing enhanced-quality businesses together and incorporating them well to generate a stronger whole. Medica is the UK’s largest autonomous pharmaceutical carton converter, and Curtis is one of the most recognized names in cosmetics packaging. We want to acquire from both teams, provide for their trades, and generate chances none of us could attain alone.”

Enhancing the security of supply

Woodberry Packaging is supported by Dublin-based Woodberry Capital and has formed its group through acquisitions across Ireland and the UK. Medica is a corporation emphasizing healthcare and pharmaceutical packaging. Medication Packaging, the owner of Medica Packaging, acquired F.G. Curtis in 2022. Curtis brings expertise in personal care and cosmetics packaging.

Mixed with Woodberry Packaging’s current Reelvision site, the attainment provides the group with three PS 9000-accredited carton sites in the UK, the pharmaceutical sector’s quality standard, with its Irish business, Colorman, working toward the same authorization. Woodberry Packaging expresses that the extended group can offer a single accredited partner for consumers with the safety of supply that structured industries progressively necessitate.

Gerard Harford, managing director at Medica, expresses: “We have constructed our business on the quality, reliability, and safety of supply that pharmaceutical consumers rely on, and becoming part of a huge group provides us with higher scale and funding to do more for them. Our consumers will work with the same group, to the same basics, now with a broader group behind them.”

James Williams, managing director at Curtis, says: “Joining the broader Woodberry group provides us with the scale and investment to build on that, while retaining the facility and standards our consumer values.”

The home care and personal care industries are progressively looking to carton packaging options. Currently, the Norwegian Orkla Home & Personal Care enterprise has announced Jif-branded all-purpose cleaners packaged in an Elopak D-Pak carton, as Elopak expands its laundry refill cartons across Nordic sectors.
