DS Smith, a paper and packaging solutions company, announced a collaboration with Matas Group, a Danish-based drug store chain, to introduce a paper-based Wavebag envelope for its e-commerce packaging. The company deals with various portfolios like health, beauty, pharmacy, and other wellbeing sectors. The innovation is a sustainable solution that protects fragile consumer goods in beauty products, sunglasses, and pharmaceuticals during transportation.
The new packaging solution is a replacement for Mata’s previous packaging, which is based on plastic bubble wrap and product line padding comprised of corrugated cardboard. The sustainable innovation aims to ensure the delicate consumer items from shocks and vibrations during the transportation processes.
Brian Gøbel Poulsen, director of supply chain & operations, Matas, said,” The Wavebag is an excellent alternative to our previous bubble wrap packaging solution, and our customers are responding very positively. The envelopes are lightweight and easy to dispose of in recycling collections. In addition, we are assured that our products are well-protected and will arrive safely. We are delighted to be working in partnership with DS Smith.”
The account manager at DS Smith also added his views by saying that the envelopes are being used to replace the bubble-wrap padding that Matas depended upon so heavily with their previous packaging solutions for their e-commerce consumers. He also added that the company is thrilled for its collab with Matas Group, which is helping them to expand their circular economy goals and sustainability.
The Matas Group operates around 263 crores across Denmark, e-commerce, and online outlets, being a major revenue adder to its portfolio.
About DS Smith- The company is working on its manufacturing operations in North America and Europe, where they have over 65,000 employees in these settings. The company aims to eliminate waste and pollution by design, which uses eco-friendly materials in production. The company is aiming to design 100% recyclable or reusable packaging, which will help consumers design out hard-to-recycle plastics, keeping them in longer for use longer.
