Evonik, a German-based specialty chemical company, introduced a new eco-friendly packaging solution for MetAMINO (DL-Methionine). The new launch is a 25-kilogram paper bag, which excludes the use of a plastic film layer. The initiative by the company will save 32 tonnes of polyethylene annually and also cut the CO2 footprint by 20%.

The new paper bag will help in maintaining the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and also improve consumer convenience. The new product design is of two paper layers, which makes it fully recyclable under PAP 22 EU classification.

The initiative has already begun at Evonik’s Belgium facility, whereas the change is also expected to be implemented soon at the company’s Singapore, U.S., and Mobile sites.

Animal Nutrition Packaging at Evonik has also been committed to decreasing plastic in MetAMINO and other ingredient packaging.  Dr Dirk Hoehler, amino acid business lead at Evonik, said, “Product Packaging is a key element in our strategy to lower CO2 emissions and promote a circular economy.” He further emphasized that it must safeguard the product, but it should be done with the least environmental impact.

The company also stated that MetAMINO’s packaging preserves the quality of the ingredient with a 36-month shelf life remaining unaffected.

Evonik is focusing on improving its innovative power by adopting advanced technological expertise. The company currently operates in over 100 countries. The company also collaborated with Mondi to launch a recyclable, ready-made paper bag for storing chemical powders. Collaborated in April, earlier this year, the packaging has been designed to lower the environmental impact of transporting fumed silica, which is used in various consumer and industrial products. The company had reported around 15.2 billion euros in sales in 2024, where 32000 employees work to deliver packaging solutions to consumers.
