Great Point Partners (GPP), a leading U.S.-based healthcare player, acquired a majority stake in Eutecma, a developer of reusable packaging solutions in the pharmaceutical cold chain logistics. The collaboration is also expected to help the company expand its sustainable packaging solutions worldwide.
Eutecma, established in 2008, is known for developing reusable temperature-controlled packaging solutions in Germany. It has been well-known for its efficiency in transportation and logistics. It was established in the pharma sector with its patented ICECATCH cooling systems.
Harrison Johnson, Vice President of GPP, said that Eutecma has the opportunity to expand its global capabilities as the demand for reusability, cost savings, and technologies like cold chain is gaining rapid demand. He further added, “This investment underscores our dedication to supporting exceptional high-growth healthcare companies that assist in bringing life-saving medicines to patients across the globe.”
The retecma system of Eutecma promotes a circular economy for its packaging materials through an extensive network of refreshment centres. The material is engaged in circulation for a longer period by maintaining low carbon emissions. Moreover, it also includes the companies’ acquisition of Resolvision, which is a proprietary reuse technology at these centres, helping them to expand their cold chain packaging operations globally.
Co-founder of Eutecma, Florian Zeilfelder, said that the company has successfully managed to create sustainable and innovative cold chain solutions, which have effectively proven themselves with customers in the pharmaceutical industry. “Our work with GPP will advance that mission so we can strategically expand our reach, especially in the US and other geographies around the world,” he added.
The Pharma sector is expected to offer lucrative growth in the coming years due to rising demand for temperature-controlled packaging, where companies are expecting stability, safety, and efficacy of various products like biologics, vaccines, drugs, and many more. The rising prevalence of various health conditions is expected to increase the trade demand on a global basis.
