Faced with increasing pressure to decrease single-use waste, premium hotel brands such as The Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott are spinning to more sustainable resolutions that don’t compromise on sophistication. Kopu Water, which is a premium American brand originated by Justin and Mindy Mahy, is serving them by making changes by providing a bottled water package that substitutes glass packing with lightweight, recyclable aluminum containers and pairs it with a built-in recycling arrangement.

In spite of being hypothetically recyclable, glass offerings pose noteworthy challenges, particularly in hospitality settings, Mahy explains. It has a low remaining value and often needs government guidelines to incentivize recovery. Only a small number of states have operative programs in place, and even then, glass must be sorted by colour and kept free from pollution. Its weight enhances transportation releases and charges, while breakage presents safety and logistical worries.

Identifying these limits, Kopu recognized aluminum as a better choice, one that fulfils both sustainability and operational goals. “We chose aluminum because of market economics and the recycling organization that is built around this substantial,” Mahy explains. “Aluminum scrap is worth $1,000 to $2,000 per ton, where unfilled plastic bottles are worth a fraction. Comparatively high remaining value suggestively upsurge in recycling charges as aluminum wholesalers want this substantial back.” In totaling to its financial and recycling compensations, aluminum provides a huge benefit in weight.

Kopu’s bottles weigh 80% less than corresponding-sized glass bottles, resulting in proportionally fewer greenhouse gas releases during transportation and treatment. To confirm the packaging aligned with the raised standards of its hospitality clients, Kopu aligned with Trivium Packaging to generate a bottle that merges performance with top design. Made with approx. 85% recycled resources, the aluminum bottle structures a distinctive “soft shoulder” silhouette that turns flawlessly into fine dining situations and luxury guest rooms.

Engineering the bottle did not come without its difficulties. “Making a bottle that offers the premium look and feel desirable for Kopu’s product, and harmonizing this with the limits of the production procedure, is a challenge,” says Chas Aylsworth, director of commercial at Trivium Packaging. “For the manufacturing procedure of these bottles, the aluminum is much heavier than that of an outdated soda or glistening beverage can. While still frivolous, the thicker resource makes it much more problematic to bend and form the metal, particularly in the formation of the reclosable threads.”
