The Metsa Group and Amcor, a forestry company, specialize in producing and developing appropriate packaging solutions. The company will begin with this initiative by marking its presence in India. A strategic collaboration to create three-dimensional molded fiber packaging solutions, including liner and lidding for different food applications. The partnership is focusing on accelerating and promoting both companies' expertise in their particular innovative packaging technologies. Technologies feature cycle-ready products, considering them as sustainable alternatives. ‘Muoto’ is a wood-based molded fiber packaging solution introduced by Metsa Spring, Metsa Group’s innovation company, which is merging with Amcor’s advanced lidding and high-barrier film liner technology. The companies joined hands to produce innovative fiber-based food packaging, which will ensure protection and a longer life span for the food products.
‘Muoto’ is an apt alternative to the recyclable and renewable solutions. It contains source pulp directly from the Nordic forests. From Amcor’s laminated film, Muoto adopts functionality. Companies' fiber packaging can be packed with a heat-sealed lid structure. This structure is considered in specific food packaging. The overall solution strategy is to enter markets with a CEPI recyclability score of over 80% with its paper stream recycling solution. The company's ambition is to discover and implement the full compostable solution. The first ever product from the valuable partnership will be introduced commercially, enabling availability in Europe this year.
Amcor has a variety of fiber-based packaging solutions. Amcor’s amfiber products have a recognized global portfolio, including specialty carton products. The Amfiber products are hitting the store shelves globally, with availability for various applications like meat, dairy, dry culinary, beverages, confectionery, snacks, and more.
The vice president, projects at Metsa Spring, Jarkko Tuominen, said, the collaboration with Amcor is an initiative to take a step forward towards sustainable packaging innovation.
