On 26 May 2025, Red Dot Awards are organized to address excellent designs and encourage creativity. In the category of product design 2025, the red dot jury selects the most consumer-appealing products. The jury considers innovative, functional, and sustainable factors, mainly focusing on designs. The popular design competition ‘Red Dot Awards’ has featured talent and celebrated art since 1955. The award show has witnessed recognized products and commendable designs over the years of success. In three disciplinary steps, participants submit products, project details, brand name, and their concepts and prototypes. The ‘Red Dot’ is recognized for its global presence and quality designs. The award winners are highlighted on various platforms such as the Red Dot website, Red Dot’s yearbooks, and museums.
The award-winning packaging portfolio of Stora Enso was spotlighted at the Red Dot Design Award function. The recyclable, scalable, and renewed certified materials attracted the jury and audience. The Marimekko artwork, like Marimekko’s iconic print, Unikko, and logo patterns, was exceptionally beautiful, thought to be innovative.
The Red Dot jury awarded Stora Enso with the motivational statement saying, The Marimekko gift packaging portfolio minimizes resource consumption. It’s an alternative to the eco-friendly packaging, consisting flexible packaging system. The accurate choice of brand ambassador enhanced the colorful range of products. The sustainable corrugated cardboard boxes with the foldable feature ensure safe packaging of products with no additional use of padding and tape materials. A few packaging products contain handles that can be used as an alternative to a shopping bag. The local materials approach is empowering sustainable packaging. The smart packaging design, the Marimekko gift portfolio, is an apt example of the sustainable efforts the manufacturing and extended brand team has initiated.
The design director of the packaging solutions division at Stora Enso, Anna Kjellberg, shared the overwhelming experience of receiving the award, a recognition for Red Dot. Additionally, the aim was to enable premium protection with more functionality. The design team presented the gift packaging with precision of Marimekko’s brand identity. Stora Enso believes this might be the reason for the admiration. The collaboration with Marimekko was an advancement in the success of the brand.
Eija Salmela indulged Marimekko’s team in the collaboration, shared a satisfactory statement. The remarkable consideration of visualization and functionality was the aim of the company to be able to connect emotionally with the customers.
