Oji, a leading Japanese paper packaging company, is inaugurating a new space for achievement with the opening of its liquid packaging carton plant in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam. This new facility will cover around 57,000 square meters of site, driving innovation at Amata Long Thanh Industrial Park. The new facilitys commercial operation will start in March 2028, with total investment expected to reach ¥16 billion (US$103.88 million). This new journey is manifesting core profit and introducing sustainability in the liquid packaging market.
Oji said, “By developing a new plant facility in Vietnam, we are heading towards doubling our expansion and presence in the vast, competitive growing markets in the near regions and Southeast Asia.” Vietnams liquid packaging market is experiencing robust growth, driving accelerated consumer demand for comfort. The regions stronger economic status and support for the e-commerce sector, driven by market growth, are enabling local and international businesses to leverage innovation and collaboration.
Oji is also expanding its sales footprint into Latin America, Europe, and Africa through its Italian manufacturing and sales company, IPL, acquired in May 2023. As noted, liquid packaging cartons can be difficult to recycle. Oji has kept this in mind and recognized the seriousness of the challenging situation, so the company is focusing on developing a new system for the collection and recycling of packaging.
The company claims it provides smart industry at scale through its comprehensive technologies, improving industrial performance and further advancing material recycling efforts in Southeast Asia. This initiative is linked with the companys Medium-Term Management Plan 2027, declared in May this year. This focuses on reframing the Oji’s business portfolio by emphasizing the importance of sustainable packaging solutions and understanding their need.
Apart from Ojis new liquid packaging carton plant, Tetra Pak also bolstered its recognition in Vietnam earlier this year. This represented a second packaging material production space at its Binh Duong facility. Now, the huge responsibility in the packaging industry is to promote sustainability, so Oji is initiating a transformation with this new carton plant facility. Ojis excellence involves sustainable forest management across its leading businesses, harnessing biodiversity conservation and support, and standing by circular economy principles through resource circulation and waste management.
