Südpack Group’s new facility to fix production-based plastic waste at Erolzheim

Announcement

Südpack has started digging for its crucial expansion in Erolzheim. The expansion is focused on bolstering the production of its eco-friendly, sustainable pharmaceutical packaging solutions. This commendable inauguration was on 25th November, which represents the companys valuable milestone for the region and the film manufacturer. This robust project is situated at the Südpack logistics center in Erolzheim.

The new facility will involve a remarkable blister concept, the PharmaGuard established by Südpack Medica, considered for solid applications. The packaging solution is related to polypropylene mono-material that delivers a recyclable option to the non-recyclable, conventional blister packs. This alternative has been gaining strong and heavy marketing demand from the day of its launch.

This expansion is also highlighting the unit crew for the regranulation of the production-based plastic waste, confirming the companys dedication towards achieving sustainability. The new facility is not only expanding access to the companys excellence but also paving the way for the sustainable solution to thrive in the new facility space. This thoughtful solution to the production-based plastic waste will encompass many packaging development companies engaged in or developing core sustainability monitoring in their operational space.

The second-generation leaders of the family-owned company, Johannes Remmele and Carolin Grimbacher, said,

“Our comprehensive packaging concept has fulfilled the future sustainability requirements of the global pharmaceutical sector, also those industries overviewed in the PPWR. A recyclable mono-material delivers a meaningful mitigation to the climate impact in CO2 parallel in comparison to that of a laminated one made from PET and aluminum. These innovations are securing our future and effectively determining the circular economy and green transformation within the packaging and plastics industry.”

Expansion preparedness

This projects first stage will witness the convergence of an existing hall into a sophisticated ISO 7-certified cleanroom for the sincere slitting machine, building a new extrusion line and GMP-compliant production. This new housing expansion will allocate technical infrastructure along with the regranulation unit. The construction will come to an end by June 2026, including the equipment installation work. The start-up and commissioning are confirmed for the third quarter of 2027.

The site inauguration will be held in the presence of the project partners and local officials, along with architect Stefan Redle, the representatives from the Grimbacher and Glass construction firms, and Erolzheim Mayor Jochen Ackermann.
