Nfinite Secures Funding to Advance Sustainable Paper Packaging

Funding has always been fruitful for most of the existing packaging giants, enthusiasts, and start-ups. Recently, Nfinite, a Waterloo, Ontario-based developer of plastic alternative nanocoatings, has secured funding from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) worth CAD$3.8 million ($2.8 million). Nfinite states that this financial contribution will allow us to move our thin-film deposition platform from the lab to the marketization line, particularly for the packaging sector.

As decided on paper, Nfinite will partner with three major commercial partners, including Unilever, Amcor, and PepsiCo. The company confirms that this funding will be spread over 3 years and will help Nfinite equip its pilot production plant in Waterloo, Ontario. This is beneficial for the company, as it will help them officially open their first-ever industrial production facility in their planned region. Nfinite expects to generate an infinite number of square meters of high-barrier paper annually.

CEO of Nfinite, Miguel Galvez, said, “Using our exclusive atmospheric pressure spatial atomic layer deposition (AP-SALD) system, our company has demonstrated a novel barrier performance on paper. The paper solution, with a barrier performance comparable to that of metallized plastic, has the potential to replace plastic in the flexible packaging sector.”

“Nfinite is excited to receive this funding reward from NRC IRAP. We are thankful to each of our commercial partners for their faith in our mission to eliminate single-use plastic flexible packaging and pave the way for a more circular and sustainable future.”

According to the research, the flexible packaging market is now a $270 billion market, and Nfinite states that paper-based alternatives offer more packaging choices in materials and formats for large consumer packaged goods (CPGs). This will draw consumer attention, satisfying their sustainability criteria without compromising quality, performance, or the need for product shelf life.

Nfinite successfully secured funding for their paper packaging solution, which is possible because of the companys commitment to sustainable packaging. The company is growing and will continue to thrive with this financial support. Nfinite offers a glimpse of the sustainable future of the packaging sector. Recycling and adopting naturally sourced, eco-friendly solutions have become trends and have worked wonders in the packaging sector.
