Qualification procedures are being fully with a number of consumers, and construction will ramp up to full volumes through 2026. The speculation doubles PM2’s invention capacity and reinforces Sappi’s place as a leader in sustainable packing by converting Somerset into one of the most innovative production locations for high-performance SBS (solid bleached sulfate) paperboard. As construction endures to ramp up, this planned investment is strategic to deliver 520,000 short tons (approximately 470,000 metric tons) of annual capacity and enlarges Sappi’s capability to produce a full variety of high-performance SBS paperboard scores, comprising foldaway carton, food service board, and cups.

This places Sappi North America as a full-facility SBS provider, improving its capability to help both domestic and worldwide packaging consumers with advanced technology that offers excellent product quality and stability.

With the achievement of construction on Project Elevate, Sappi additionally solidifies its leadership in high-quality paperboard and supports its investment in U.S. engineering, innovation, and the future of sustainable packing. “With enhanced volume and a focus on upgraded service, we’re able to fulfil rising demand with greater speed, consistency, and receptiveness.” Sappi North America started the PM2 conversion in 2022, succeeding the successful restructure of PM1 in 2018. These promotions demonstrate Sappi’s promise to update its actions in ways that help both business development and ecological responsibility.

“This conversion represents a major step forward in our global packaging strategy,”

said Steve Binnie, Chief Executive Officer of Sappi Limited. “It reflects our commitment to long-term development and to broadening Sappi’s portfolio of packaging solutions to meet our customers' requirements.”

Kirk Ross, VP of Manufacturing, expressed,

“Product from the new machine is now commercially available, delivering the same high standards of quality and performance our customers expect, while expanding our range of applications.”
