On 25th August 2026, Fujifilm announced the first sale of its J Press FP790 digital flexible packaging press in the Americas. Quantum Flex Pack LLC, based in Rockford, Illinois, has purchased the machine, becoming the first company in North America to invest in the technology.
The sale is also the sixth global sale of the J Press FP790 since its launch. Fujifilm has already started installing the press at Quantum Flex Pack’s facility. The company expects the new equipment to strengthen its flexible packaging production and help it respond to changing customer needs.
The J Press FP790 was developed for a flexible packaging market that is seeing more product varieties, shorter production runs, and tighter delivery schedules. The digital press can print at speeds of up to 164 feet per minute and supports substrates up to 31 inches wide.
One of its key benefits is reduced setup and changeover time. Jobs can be switched quickly without the make-ready processes common with traditional printing. This can help packaging companies reduce lead times and improve production efficiency.
The press uses 1,200 × 1,200 dpi resolution and CMYK water-based inks to produce sharp packaging graphics. It can also achieve a wide range of Pantone colors without relying on additional spot-color inks. Two white ink channels help produce strong white coverage.
An integrated inspection tower provides real-time quality checks during production. The system is also designed to work alongside existing flexographic and rotogravure processes, giving converters more flexibility when selecting the right printing method for different jobs.
Fujifilm is also positioning the J Press FP790 as a more sustainable option for flexible packaging production. The press uses water-based primers and inkjet technology. It can reduce waste and lower the number of consumables needed compared with traditional analogue printing.
For Quantum Flex Pack, the investment signals a stronger focus on digital production and advanced packaging capabilities. As brands demand faster delivery, more design variations and efficient production, technologies such as the FP790 could become increasingly important in the flexible packaging industry.
